Ordering & Customization
Is it legal to replace a VIN plate?
Replacing a damaged, faded or missing plate on a vehicle you legally own, with the same original VIN, is a normal part of restoration and repair in the US and Canada. Altering a VIN or moving one between vehicles to change identity is illegal. We only engrave numbers for vehicles you own or are authorized to service, and we verify orders.
What information do you need to make my plate?
Just the exact text you want engraved: your VIN, HIN or serial plus any data lines. Type it into the product page and check the live preview. If you want a factory layout matched, email a photo of your original after ordering.
Can you match my original plate’s font and layout?
In most cases, yes. We stock period-correct stamped, embossed and etched styles from the 1930s onward. Send a clear photo, even of a damaged plate, and we will send a free proof within 1 business day.
Do I get to approve a proof?
Yes. Every custom order includes a free digital proof. We engrave only after your approval, so there are no surprises in the mailbox.
Do you offer bulk or fleet pricing?
Yes. Trailer manufacturers, fleets, restoration shops and engraving houses get volume pricing from 10 units, plus sequential numbering support. Email richardlee66666666@gmail.com with quantities for a same-day quote.
What letters are not used in a VIN?
The letters I, O and Q are not used in standard 17-character VINs to avoid confusion with the numbers 1 and 0.
Materials & Durability
What are the plates made of?
Most plates are .040" 5052 anodized aluminum. Equipment plates are also available in .032" 304 stainless steel. Blanks are .025" anodized aluminum for easy DIY engraving.
Is VIN etching permanent?
Yes. Laser engraving changes the surface of the metal rather than adding ink or vinyl. The marking remains readable through normal outdoor exposure, cleaning and handling.
Will the text fade or peel?
No. We laser-engrave the characters into the metal rather than printing on top. There is no ink to fade and no vinyl to peel.
Are the plates fuel, salt and UV resistant?
Yes. Anodized aluminum resists UV, salt spray, fuel splash and pressure washing. Stainless handles solvents and heat even better.
How do I mount the plate?
Choose 2 or 4 drilled holes, holes with factory-style rosette rivets, or 3M VHB adhesive backing for no-drill mounting.
Shipping & Returns
How fast is production and delivery?
We engrave and ship within 24–48 hours of proof approval. Shipping is always free and tracked; US delivery typically takes 3–5 business days and Canada 5–10 business days.
Do you ship to Canada?
Yes, daily. Most orders arrive in 5–10 business days. Where possible we ship duties-paid; remaining carrier brokerage follows standard cross-border mail.
What is your return policy?
Custom-engraved plates are final sale unless we made an error or the plate arrives damaged. Then we remake it free. Blank plates can be returned within 30 days.
What if I made a typo in my VIN?
Contact us immediately. If we have not engraved yet, we will fix it free. This is exactly why we send a proof before production.
